Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

It takes an entire village to raise a child

From Marc Borbely:

I've just started a blog: DCPS Info. The first entry: brief notes from tonight's school board meeting (on school calendar, truancy rules, age eligibility rules, budget reconciliation, and a budget timeline). I'd like to help keep people updated on school issues, but without bugging everyone too often. Feel free to post comments/questions to the blog, or send information separately.

Just as a reminder, here are also two of the largest citywide e-mail discussion groups for DCPS advocates: http://yahoogroups.com/group/concerned4dcps (with a broad focus) and http://modernizations.org/join (limited to modernization and facilities issues).
------
I will say that the RPUS/Richard Layman perspective on K-12 education issues is a rare one on the first e-list...
