Bad news on the transportation front
Ken alerts us to this NYT blog entry, "LaHood, a Republican, Considered for Transportation Slot," which says that Illinois Republican Congressman Ray LaHood may well be appointed as Secretary of Transportation. Nothing in his bio should get us excited about this prospect.
This is sad, but not a lot different than a Republican, George W. Bush, appointing a Democrat, Norman Mineta, to be his first Secretary of Transportation. It could mean that this cabinet position is a lot more important to us than it is to the President-Elect.

Update: See "Ray LaHood’s Transportation Background" from the Transport Politic blog, which represents my thinking more than this piece by Matt Yglesias, "LaHood for Transportation?"
