DC's McMillan Reservoir and Community-Initiated Planning
I am more in the middle likely, between a fully developer-initiated process versus a full community process, tinged as Beyond DC points out in this blog entry, "What “open space” really means" with the desire for no development at all, leading to advocacy for parks and open space everywhere, versus a balancing a variety of sometimes conflicting city and neighborhood objectives concerning development and change.
Still this email, about a meeting tonight for a community-initiated planning process, is interesting:
Please join us Wednesday evening to explore the future of McMillan Reservoir/Park. This meeting is organized & hosted by local community members & ANC reps -- as opposed to previous meetings which were controlled by the developers. If the DC government & developers (EYA) have their way, this beautiful and historic site will be turned into 2 million square feet of 8-story office space, a nursing home, hotel, over 1200 condos....
Come explore alternatives -- including community gardens!!
OUR COMMUNITY. OUR CHOICE.

Please become part of a community effort to shape the future of this
national treasure in our own backyard.
