Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

See "Proposed CTA fare hikes call for $3 L rides" from the Chicago Sun-Times.

From the article:

• Increasing rail fares 33 percent, from $2.25 to $3;

• Upping regular bus fare from $2.25 to $2.50, an 11 percent increase for those paying cash;

• Raising the cost of daily, three-day, weekly and monthly passes. A weekly pass would go from $23 to $30, while a 30-day pass would increase from $86 to $110.
