SEPTA (Philadelphia), Farmers Markets and Placemaking

In honor of Farmers Market week last week... last year I wrote an entry about transit as placemaking, and amongst the examples, contrasted how SEPTA, the transit agency in Philadelphia, actively supports farmers markets at its stations and properties, as part of its sustainability mission, called "Farm-to-SEPTA."

They do more than you would expect, including renting an unutilized lot to a market garden for $1/year and have a farmers market in front of their headquarters at 1234 Market Street in Downtown Philadelphia.  See "SEPTA helps community farm grow" from Metro Magazine.
