Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

========
I am a big fan of house and/or garden tours as historic preservation and community building exercises. Takoma Park, Maryland has from time to time, a similar kind of event. There is also a house there, often part of house tours, built for what is called visitability or accommodation for aging residents. From time to time too, the Takoma Village Co-Housing complex is open for tours too (that's in DC).

There needs to be a greater focus on promoting green urbanism in housing and this is a great method for doing so.

Along with Green/Historic Preservation Housing Expos, which the
Chicago Bungalow Association is known for.
