DC1974 sends us a temporary link to the Wall Street Journal article "Nine Cities, Nine Ideas," which discusses 9 cities and their world class efforts to use energy much more efficiently:
1. Chicago -- rooftop gardens on municipal buildings to reduce energy use
2. Ann Arbor -- converting streetlights to LEDs to reduce energy use
3. Palm Desert -- community-wide energy conservation projects and program
4. Amsterdam -- using lake water to power air conditioning
5. Beijing -- replacing old (really old) equipment with energy efficient technology
6. London -- (re)creating a local power grid
7. Aspen -- energy conservation and greenhouse gas emission reduction
8. New York City -- energy from the sea
9. Thane, India -- solar energy.
Again, examples of world class cities doing great things, and serving as examples to others -- giving to, not just taking from, the world.
