Testing light rail in Norfolk, Virginia

Video from the Norfolk Virginian-Pilot.

It will be the first light rail system in Virginia (using the same kind of vehicles that will run on the Purple Line in Montgomery and Prince George's Counties in Maryland), and has been subject of a lot of controversy in terms of cost overruns (which are typical, actually) and the like. The system will run in Norfolk and there is various back and forth wrt extending the system to Virginia Beach ("Is light rail's next stop Virginia Beach?").

The system is scheduled to open in May. The Hampton Roads Transit system is reasonably gutsy in maintaining an archive of press stories--good and bad--on the system.
