Montgomery County Planning Director to speak next Tuesday on County zoning rewrite

From Action Committee for Transit:

Join us at the upcoming meeting of Action Committee for Transit on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at 7:30 pm. Our guest speaker will be Rollin Stanley discussing "Rewriting the Montgomery County Zoning Code."

ACT’s monthly meetings are held at the Silver Spring Center, 8818 Georgia Ave, in the Woodside Conference Room.

In 2009, I heard Rollin Stanley speak at a young planners training session "off the reservation of Montgomery County" at Catholic University.

I have never heard a public official speak more directly in my life. While refreshing, it was shocking. Ostensibly the talk was about doing quality presentations, but it went much further than that, because he spoke about his award-winning presentation about his work in St. Louis.

While he is still very direct, he's not likely to be quite that direct at next week's meeting.

But still worth hearing. (Sadly, I have a prior commitment).

For more on Rollin Stanley:

- "Tall Talker: Rollin Stanley, Montgomery County’s new planning director, has a big personality and big ideas. Both are rubbing some people the wrong way" from Bethesda Magazine

- I couldn't wheedle a copy of the St. Louis presentation from him, but digging around the Internet, I found this book chapter which is based on it, The future of shrinking cities: problems, patterns, and strategies of urban transformations in a global context.

- this blog entry about the talk I saw, "Rollin Stanley, planning director in Montgomery County"
