Historic Preservation Tuesday: Historic Chicago Bungalow Assn. Fall Training Series

The Historic Chicago Bungalow Association is a model preservation-revitalization organization in Chicago, focused on Chicago's unique bungalow housing stock, providing technical assistance to property owners and from time to time financial assistance and promotion programs to encourage inward migration to the city (Chicago's been leaking population for a long time).

I mention a lot the organization's "Bungalow Expo" programs, which is a model for what every major city should be doing, to promote more architecturally-appropriate rehabilitation and capacity building.

Their Fall line up of technical assistance programs looks quite good.

I'd like to attend a bunch of the seminars myself, especially attic renovation. And the program on basement flooding would have been very useful (for obvious reasons) too.

The HCBA technical assistance program is an equally good model for what cities and preservation organizations could be doing to build a greater appreciation for historic building stock and hopefully discouraging "bad" renovations.
