Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Marketing Nonprofit Business Development

I was just looking at the online Richmond Times-Dispatch (www.timesdispatch.com) and there was an interesting clickable ad from the Richmond Economic Development Corporation. The banner said something about promoting small business. Clicking on it took me to this: http://www.redcfinance.org/Index_800x600_frameset.htm, where they were promoting small business loans:

  • Startup or working capital up to $35,000
  • Equipment or expansion financing up to $50,000
  • Acquisition or renovation of "owner-occupied" commercial properties up to $150,000
  • Loans are available for small businesses located in the City of Richmond only.
  • Businesses applying for financing greater than $35,000 are required to have been in operations for two or more years. Other qualifying terms and restrictions will apply.

It's nice to see active promotion of such a program. Too often, such programs are lightly publicized and difficult to find.
