Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Fairfax Talks Transportation (Privately) -- Dr. Transit

Today's Washington Post reports that Fairfax County officials are hosting a transportation summit Monday March 14th (tomorrow) at 8:30 am at the County Government Center. Local and state transportation specialists will join elected officials in discussing country road and transit challenges and coming up with a list of proposed solutions.

Only county residents with invitations may attend, but some sessions will be televised live on Fairfax Cable Channel 16, and through a videostream broadcast at www.fairfaxcounty.gov

Dr. Transit thinks that it's good to also have advocates and other people involved who might have other experiences and regional concerns in mind. How Fairfax connects, or doesn't, to other parts of the region affects intra- and inter-county transit. Best practice experiences and knowledge are key, for example the experience of Montgomery County's Ride On system ought to be shaping the development of the Fairfax Connector bus system.

The irony of the statement on the County Website is delicious (emphasis added).
