Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Beyond DC -- Beyond AWESOME

Union Station, Washington, DCUnion Station walkway. Photo from BeyondDC.

On occasion I have utilized the BeyondDC photo website, which features many DC neighborhoods as well as galleries of communities in Maryland and Virginia. Looking over it again in response to an email list discussion about supermarkets--where someone included a link to a BeyondDC photo of a Harris-Teeter in Ballston, I was reminded about how great a site this is.

These sections on Union Station and the new Downtown Circulator, are really really great. But then so are the galleries on Shaw, Georgetown, Capitol Hill...

I will be adding a link to BeyondDC in the DC-Regional Links section in the right sidebar.
