Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Detroit, Loft City

I am adding a link to the Girl-in-the-D blog on Detroit (which also has a good set of links to other Detroit blogs). In an e-conversation, she mentioned that she has written a couple of pieces for an online magazine about Detroit called Model D. The pieces are about loft living--"Inside Detroit Lofts" and "Behind the Bricks: Lofts Exposed"--and are fun reads.

As Kyle Ezell says in his book Get Urban, there are many places outside of Manhattan where you can live and have an urban experience.
