Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

DC Clean City Initiative seeks volunteer evaluators

I saw an email (which now I can't find) from Merrit Drucker, the City's Coordinator of the Clean City Initiative, seeking volunteers to conduct the next "Citywide Cleanliness Assessment".

Could be interesting.

I wonder if the survey is more about volume rather than why. My blog entry "Every Litter Bit Hurts," discusses these issues at length. This piece by Harry Jaffe from the Examiner, "Civil servants know how to smell a rat," is about Mr. Drucker and the Clean City Initiative.

In Case of EmergencyPaul Wolf thinks glass bus shelters are a mistake.
