Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

UK Transportation Vision 2030

I just came across this and it looks interesting. It'll be awhile before I have a chance to look at it.

From the website:

The "Portfolio of Transport Visions" is a key deliverable from the Vision 2030 project. There are 12 Visions, each of which includes a concept which is significant for the operation of the motorway and trunk road network. Each Vision may be considered in isolation to provide a focus for a specific strategy, or combined to a greater or lesser degree with other Visions to provide a wider and more comprehensive strategy. The Visions are intended to be illustrative rather than definitive...

These transport Visions provide a snapshot of the future and have been created from a structured process of scenario development, backed-up with information provided by experts from a range of backgrounds, in some cases outside of the transport field. The Visions form a comprehensive and forward looking input for the development of a longer term strategic plan. Over time, forecasts will vary according to changing scenarios (e.g. an oil crisis), however, visioning is an iterative process which can take into account these changes as well as the impact of developing strategies and the changing business environment.
