Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

In an earlier blog entry, I reprinted an email from Elise Bernard about the closing of Young's Deli in the Florida Market area. Clearly, this is the meal that Elise and her friend were eating. If only had I known... Pictured are two orders of Be Bim Bop, and Melina.

Also check out Elise's set of photos on the "Wholesale Food District", including this one...

You need meat, go to the market, you need bread, go to the bakery (Florida Market)All photos courtesy of Elise Bernard.

Don't forget that Elise Bernard and I will be leading a tour of the Florida Market area (alas, with no meal stop at Young's) on Saturday July 29th.
