Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Speaking of ANCs

Elise Bernard, blogmaster of Frozen Tropics, was elected as a write-in candidate in ANC5B, for Single Member District 08. Being the retiring type, she never announced in her blog that she was running. (Click here for more write in results across the city.) I don't know where Elise got this document from, with the write-in results, since it's not publicly disclosed yet on the Board of Elections website.

According to comments made to the entry, I guess with absentee ballots, Alan Kimber eeked out a victory over Anthony Rivera in ANC6C, plus Anne Phelps was elected as a write-in also in ANC6C, so maybe there is a new day in that ANC.

For the rest of us (there are only about 290 ANC Commissioners), don't forget that there are plenty of ways to be engaged in the life of our neighborhoods, community, city, and region without being an elected official.
