Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

I guess I have to stop complaining about the phrase "Smart Growth"

Since the just released e-newsletter from Smart Growth America, also viewable on the web, interviewed me on the topic of "Lifestyle Centers vs. Traditional Commercial Districts." The newsletter has one quote, but the above-referenced "Lifestyle Centers vs. Traditional Commercial Districts" is a somewhat longer discussion of "Imitation, Authenticity and the Public Realm."

Thank you for the plug (and the editing)!
