Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

DC Government helping Virginia reap sales tax revenue

From a neighborhood e-list:

DC residents in the market for appliances should know that the District Department of the Environment will be at the Alexandria Home Depot, 400 South Pickett Street, on Saturday March 31st from 11am until 3pm to hand you $150 instant rebates on Energy Star Washers, $100 rebates on Energy Star refrigerators and $50 rebates on Energy Star window a/c units.

DDOE is also offering DC residents instant rebates on previously purchased(purchases since April 2006) Energy Star refrigerators, washers and window a/c units. Just bring proof of purchase and DC electric account verification. (message sent by robin.graham@dc.gov)

DC has a Home Depot too, at Brentwood Shopping Center, that was attracted to the city in part by tax incentives and other inducements.
