Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Don't forget tonight's Historic Brookland Farmers Market

4 pm - 7 pm
10th and Otis Streets NE
adjacent to the Brookland Metro Station
Greater Brookland neighborhood, Washington, DC

Featuring vegetables for sure and maybe cherries and strawberries from Licking Creek Bend Farm (Pennsylvania), snap peas and other vegetables from Stoney Lonesome Farm (Virginia), the increasingly popular Little Jimmy's Italian Ice, and new this week, baked goods from Lynnette's Cakes and Catering.

Last week, the growers sold out of many items including snap peas, potatoes, and strawberries.

Lynnette writes:

I will bring a variety of baked goods including chocolate chip cookies, rosemary shortbread cookies, carrot raisin walnut bread, banana bread, cream cheese poundcake, raspberry swirl poundcake, coconut and white chocolate cookie bars, and apple, peach and cherry turnovers, various slices of cakes that I bake including strawberry shortcake, lemon cake, lemon raspberry cake, mandarin orange and vanilla cake, chocolate cake, carrot cake, etc. I will alternate items during the weeks and probalby bring in a few new items periodically. I will make sure I have a nice variety each week.
