Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Floating Pool in Brooklyn Heights

Floating Pool

If the water in the Potomac and Anacostia Rivers is so bad that we can't swim there (see "On the Potomac, Swimming in Risk," subtitled "In Debating the River's Cleanliness, Confusion Win," from the Washington Post) why not put floating pools in the river?

If people started "using" the river more, we'd start demanding that it be better taken care of--at least I hope so.
