Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Travel

between work (more side consulting work out of town) and pleasure and/or work (conferences and other stuff) I am/will be out of town a fair amount in October and November, which has and will continue to impact my ability to blog.

E.g., I still haven't blogged about a bunch of things from Minneapolis-St. Paul, none yet from last week's quick trip to Pittsburgh, and who knows what will transpire from the trip this week to Los Angeles, where among other things, I hope to experience Downtown, the Leimert Park commercial district, The Grove, Grand Central Market, and the Los Angeles Farmers Market (I'll miss the Santa Monica Farmers Market), and some light rail and bus rapid transit (Metro Rapid), and I'll get to read the Los Angeles Times... Probably won't get to City Walk or many other things that I'd like to see.
