Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Iniquities

Whole Foods on P Street

I was at the Whole Foods Market on Saturday, being in the neighborhood. I don't like going there much, even though they do an excellent job of merchandising, because there are always so many people.

Two things...

1. Why do they charge $1.68 for one bunch of conventional cilantro, when you can buy two or three bunches for $1 at Pan Am International Market?

2. They offer parking validation. Why not offer transit vouchers for people who don't own and/or drive cars?
