Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Smart car on I-95 around Richmond

this one seemed to be moving along at a fair clip, so these kinds of small vehicles can work at high speeds. I am not trying to promote driving, and yes, I drive too, on occasion. But I do believe in rightsizing. Too many city dwellers have SUVs, which are as wide as a narrow rowhouse, and a contributor to a reduction in the availability of street parking places (which are underpriced, but that's another story).
