[Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

It's all about commodifying place

Photo: Chicago: Wrigley Field - West Addison St, by Wally G, who writes: In 2007, Wrigley Field was ranked #31 on the AIA 150 America's Favorite Architecture list.

Jay Marriotti reports in the Chicago Sun-Times about Sam Zell's building plans for Wrigley Field, in "Zell is starting to scare me."

There is also a great academic book (and related journal articles) on this subject in Chicago (which makes me wonder if anyone will ever write a thesis on stadium dealing in DC -- Redskins, Nationals, DC United, and Verizon Center: It's Hardly Sportin': Stadiums, Neighborhoods and the New Chicago by Costas Spirou and Larry Bennett.
