Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Bicycle Route 40 sign, Austin Texas

(Image from the City of Austin)

We need to put map signs on bicycle routes, partly to educate non-bicyclists that it's something possible.

Similarly, why not post bicycle maps in the bus shelters that for now have empty placard slots, i.e., instead of putting the Metromap on both sides of the shelter, put a bicycle route map on the other side.
