Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

B'more and the Do it yourself culture #2

There isn't really a counterculture bookstore in DC, one that focuses on radical literature. I suppose there is that coffeehouse on 18th Street NW in Adams-Morgan, maybe, but I never go by there when it's open.

Red Emma's is a radical bookstore-coffeehouse in Baltimore that is a for-profit collective that makes a profit. So not only do they have great books, journals, and zines + coffee and stuff, they make money.
