Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Planning for Health: Economic Development and Redevelopment (cover)
From email:

The Land Use and Health project at the Public Health Law Program invites you to sign up for our email newsletter, Healthy Planning. This quarterly digest will keep you up to date on the innovative strategies that communities in California and nationwide are taking to incorporate public health into land use and economic development decisions.

The organization also publishes three toolkits that look to be of interest:

General Plans and Zoning
Economic Development and Redevelopment
How to Create and Implement Healthy General Plans

The website states:

These toolkits are created for health advocates and professionals who are interested in learning more about the connections between planning decisions and community health. They are designed to serve as learning and reference materials to guide and inform participation in land use and economic development processes.
