Furmano's Beans at MS3000, Florida Market

Furmano'sproducts, like the Hanover brand that you see in many grocery stores, are produced in Pennsylvania. It's interesting to think about how most food products sold in stores are nationally-distributed brands, yet not that long ago there were local-regional brands across the country (just like breweries, dairies, and snack products) with local canning operations.

Northumberland, PA is about 175 miles from DC, but would you still consider this "local" food production? Hanover Foods is about 85 miles from DC, outside of York, so it is definitely located within the local food production region.

I hadn't been aware of Furmano's the company until I attended a farmers conference and trade show in Hershey, PA earlier in the year. At the conference, you could drink unlimited tomato juice--the Furmano's product--and eat unlimited apples--from Rice Orchards. The juice was good...
