Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Influencing the Secretary of Transportation(?)

Eric Britton of the New Mobility Agenda (based in Paris) was asked to participate in a National Journal panel on transportation in association with the Inauguration. He submitted an awesome paper in advance: "Tear down those walls, Secretary LaHood"

Some of us on the newmobilitycafe yahoogroup contributed to the various rewrites that led to the final paper. It was a great opportunity to help shape what should be an important document which could influence the incoming Secretary of Transportation.

I highly recommend your reading Eric's short paper.
