Bicycle racks
One of the exhibitors at the National Main Street conference was Madrax Bicycle Parking & Bike Racks. They have some nice products, including racks with a separate section that better accommodates the use of U locks. They even have racks for skateboards which they told me that are popular at schools.
I also went over to the McDonald's Bicycle Station, located in Chicago's Millennium Park. The bike station side (lockers, parking, showers, repairs, some sales of bicycle gear and parts) is separate from the bike rental side. Plus the Chicago Police bicycle unit is based there too. (A good use of public resources to help fund and support preferred mobility objectives) with their own secure facility and repair operation. Bicycle parking, even outside, is monitored.
Also, while I didn't use the L heavy rail transit system very much (mostly I spent my time around the conference area, which was downtown), I did take photos of INSIDE THE STATION BICYCLE RACKS at both the Logan Square (blue line) and Midway (orange line) stations. This is something that could be done at some subway stations in the WMATA system and will have to be added to my bicycling 2.0 paper...
I haven't uploaded photos yet.
