Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Notice about a special event related street closing

On Tuesday I rode over to Bethesda via East-West Highway (in Montgomery County) for an errand, and saw this sign at the intersection with Connecticut Ave. Not sure when the notice went up, figure at least two weeks before the event.

That's a good policy for other places (DC too) and for subway systems closing stations for a few days for track and other maintenance work.
