Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Mixed use retail-office-housing block in Vancouver, BC

Photo by Patrick Condon, professor at University of British Columbia.

Big box extends underground. Parking below that. Office on second floor. Two story townhouses sit on the roof of the whole affair enjoying the view and the garden. At Cambie and 6th in Vancouver.

--------
the design doesn't appeal to me but the mixed use aspect does.
