Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

America's dirtiest cities

Is a Travel & Leisure story, "America’s Dirtiest Cities 2010" based on their annual survey of readers to determine "America's Favorite Cities." DC ranks #15; New Orleans is #1; New York City is 6th. It'd be interesting to separately rank commercial districts from residential neighborhoods.

I am a fan of the Keep Australia Beautiful Litter Survey form myself.
