Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Brooklyn Fourth Avenue visioning study mapping tool

Fourth Avenue Brooklyn streetscape improvement projectChristopher calls our attention to a map-based tool employed in the Fourth Avenue visioning study being conducted in Brooklyn by the NYC Dept. of Transportation.  People can zoom the view at a particular location on the street in the study area and add a "post-it note" like comment.

It's pretty cool.  I like it because it's focused.  One of the problems I have with crowdsourcing is that there can be a lot of spurious suggestions.
