Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Damn, Washington needs a "radical" bookstore: New Year's Brunch at Baltimore's Red Emma's

Red Emma's is a worker's cooperative radical bookstore, coffee shop, and events space in the Station North Arts District in Baltimore, at 30 West North Avenue (a couple blocks from Penn Station).

The store used to be in Mount Vernon in a very small space.

A couple years ago they moved to a much larger space--I think the coffee shop is run by another group--which affords a big area for presentations and meetings (but they have another private meeting space that groups can reserve also).

From email:

For the second year in a row, the Red Emma's collective invites you to join us for New Year's Hangover Brunch, from 11AM - 4PM, on New Year's Day.

This year's special offerings? Vegan biscuits & gravy, with a side of veggie sausage + fluffy, delicious pancakes! Your choice of either, or get 'em all together for the ultimate hangover cure!

Coffee & juice will be flowing. 2017's gonna be a rough one folks - let's start it off by sharing a meal with our extended community ... See you there!
