Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

A front yard of corn

600 East and 800 Souith, Salt Lake City

This house is next to the headquarters of Wasatch Community Gardens and their primary community garden.  I don't know the relationship to the houses.  The corn is being grown as part of an initiative called "Sabores de Mi Patria."

It's visually striking.  I can't say I've seen similar examples elsewhere, although there are plenty of people who grow food in their front yards (we did in DC because initially we didn't have a lot of sunlight in the backyard).
