Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Destination Winnipeg -- A nice, clean website

I really like the "work," "live" "play" buttons at the mid-top left for organizing the information architecture of the website. The front page is straightforward and clean, like a well-designed newspaper.

I highly recommend using this site as a model for designing a community revitalization-destination-tourism oriented website, along with:

the East Carson Street Main Street Program in Pittsburgh
the Andersonville neighborhood in Chicago
North Park Main Street in San Diego (for content, not necessarily organization and design)
The City of Johannesburg South Africa
The Waimakariri District in New Zealand
The 16:62 Design Zone in Pittsburgh
The Over-the-Rhine District in Cincinnati
Lewisburg Pennsylvania
his blog-based online community newspaper in California
and the redesigned website for the National Main Street Center.
