Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

South Capitol Street Vision -- Presentation and Public Input Session this Wednesday

Vision of a rebuilt South Capitol Street parkway. Rendering courtesy of National Capital Planning Commission. Posted by HelloNCPC's "South Capitol Street Task Force" will hold a public meeting to discuss its vision to transform South Capitol Street into a signature address in the nation's capital. The meeting will be Wednesday, March 30th, from 5:30-7:30 pm--at the NCPC offices at 401 9th St. NW, Suite 500.

Debbi Wilgoren wrote about this project in the District Extra section of Thursday's Washington Post. And this blog, http://www.jdland.com/dc, seems to cover Southwest DC Development issues pretty exhaustively.

A presentation will be given at 5:30 pm and at 6:30 pm, with a public comment session after each presentation.

For more information, call 482-7296, email southcapitol@ncpc.gov or check out the What's New section on the NCPC website.
