Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Drivers bitch, but won't switch

is the great headline for a story about gas prices in today's Toronto Star. I envy the headline writer...

From the article:

"As long as these prices go up and then come back down six weeks later, it's not going to fundamentally change (buying habits)," says the head of DesRosiers Automotive Consultants. "They'll say, `I'll bitch and complain and be pissed for those six weeks that gas prices are high, but damn it all, I'm going to drive the vehicle I want.'" A spokesman for Shell Canada said customers have verbally abused many of the company's station clerks over the past few days.
