Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

This shoe store display acknowledges the local Gay Pride parade in Vancouver. Flickr photo by madamlemon. At a training last week, I commented about how I am always surprised that Kramerbooks never does book displays in association with big public demonstrations that tend to bring thousands and thousands of people to the city--and to Dupont Circle.

(I am so glad madamlemon is getting around and taking great photos in Canada. It makes me miss visiting there. Her photos in Kingston Ontario make me realize that Union Station could be a key point for promoting railroad transportation--imagine a steam engine being displayed there comparable to that in Kingston.)
