Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

From Laurence Aurbach, of the TND Town Paper (via the pro-urb list):

I'm continuing to post a number of background research resources to the Town Paper Gulf Coast website. One resource is Dan Burden's Waterfront Trail Guide, which makes a compelling case for waterfront parks as flood and surge buffers. Burden provides many attractive photos of trails and walkways that function as both amenities and important components of flood buffer infrastructure.

Also, keep an eye on the official charrette website, Mississippi Renewal, for ongoing updates, plans and images.
