Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Mid-City Artists Group (DC)

While writing a press release, I learned about the Mid-City Artists.

From their website:

Who are the Mid-City Artists? They are a diverse and talented group of nearly 40 professional artists who have come together for the purpose of promoting their art, and the Dupont/Logan neighborhoods they call home. It is an opportunity to integrate their art with the fast growing retail and commercial concerns that are located in this area. They are here to let you know that “there is more than a real-estate boom in Mid City - there is a group of extraordinarily talented artists who have quietly made a name for themselves by offering great art at affordable prices to the insiders who know them.

The next Mid City Artists Open Studios will be held on the weekend of November 12 and 13. During Open Studios, many artist studios within walking distance of the Dupont/Logan Circles will be open for visitors.

The website is well laid out, with sections on each artist, images, and links.
