Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." From Lisa Bircham, DC State Historic Preservation Officer:

Some of you may have already learned of the tragic loss over the weekend of a member of the historic preservation family, Charles Atherton, former Secretary of the Commission of Fine Arts. The Historic Preservation Office offers our sincere condolences to Charles' family and his former colleagues at the Commission. A funeral service has been set for Thursday, December 8 at 11:00 a.m. in the main nave of the National Cathedral.

His accident was written up in the Post in this article, "Struck D.C. Pedestrian Has Critical Injuries, $5 Ticket."

This is a tough town for a pedestrian--a $5 ticket for your death...
