Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Unkempt branch of Bank of America, 8th and H Streets NE, Washington, DC

The branch was bustling, but outside as always, the sidewalk outside the branch is filthy. You'd think they'd care, but they don't do much of anything.

I went to another branch, on Rhode Island Avenue by the Brentwood Shopping Center, and I commented to the manager about how clean it was outside. She said "We're always on our property manager to make sure things stay clean."

Clearly, the problem is with the management at the branch at 8th and H Streets NE, not necessarily Trammell Crow, the property manager...
