Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

WMATA expands the Trip Planner

The WMATA trip planner has added mapping capabilities with walking directions so that transit riders can get more detailed directions to specific addresses from subway stations and bus stops.

The Trip Planner system (which is located on the top right of the WMATA website) has been expanded to provide information for stops on the Virginia Railway Express, Maryland Commuter Rail, Montgomery County's RideOn bus system, and the Fairfax County Connector bus system.

It's not perfect. I entered the address for the Birchmere Music establishment in Arlington County, and because I entered "Mt." Vernon instead of "Mount Vernon" the address was not recognized, until I spelled it out.

Still, this is a very useful service.
