Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Speaking of global warming...

Yesterday's Baltimore Sun reports on the impact on coastal lands from global warmingl, polar cap/glacial ice melting, and rising sea levels in the article "Faster melting of polar ice dampens future of Shore: Scientists underestimated rise in sea level, studies say." As you can see from the accompanying diagram, this will impact DC, because of the impact on the Chesapeake Bay as well as the Potomac River.

All politics is local indeed.
