Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Tonight the good people of Eckington... (Ward 5 Convention and the "State of the Ward" Address: A Blue Print for the Future

Political ConventionSan Diego Union-Tribune Photo. (I need to learn photoshop so I can create my own. equivalent -- Woodridge, Brookland, Eckington, Trinidad, Ivy City, etc.)

Interesting, a flyer on a "Ward Five Convention" tonight at Greater Mt. Calvary Church, 610 Rhode Island Avenue NE. 6 pm - 9 pm.

Besides the keynote listed in the header, the flyer says--

--Ward 5 Roll Call: ANC5A, ANC5b, ANC5C, civic associations, citizens groups, Ward 5 Democrats;
--Ward 5 Council on Education;
-- Meet the Ward 5 Council Candidates;
-- Recognition of former Ward 5 Councilmembers.
with special performances by Dunbar Senior High School Marching Band, DC Youth Ensemble, and much more!

It'd be cool if neighborhoods could "vote" their delegates just like at the national political party conventions... "The good people of the neighborhood of North Michigan Park cast their ballots for ... Vera Winfield! (The crowd goes wild... I mean, what about Frank Wilds, or Regina James, or Ron Magness or ...)
