Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

Keep art real

Keep Art Real is a blog in Trenton New Jersey that was created to defend ARTWORKS, a community-artists center. Somehow, the Growth Machine got the idea that the best thing to do would be to close artworks and replace it with live-work "artists" studios at market rate. Why they wouldn't want to build critical mass by adding to the arts district by renovating other places for housing is beyond me.

Anyway, the blog has a bunch of interesting entries and links to arts-culture projects around the country. I plan to delve more deeply into these entries myself.
